Richardson Romanesque
Immanuel Baptist Church
1886
Newton, MA

Richardson's design for Immanuel Baptist Church has a cruciform plan with a square tower rising over the crossing. The focus of the design was the raised baptistry at the center of the chancel. The building was simply constructed of brownstone laid in courses. The original interior was dark red with blue stenciling but many alterations have been done over the years and little of the original interior remains. The exterior however, is a fine example of a modest scale church.
